TOKYO – February 26, 2014 – Works Applications, Japan’s largest ERP software provider, has concluded a joint research agreement with The University of Tokyo and will support the research project "Economic Analysis of Corporate Human Resources Allocation Mechanisms" being carried out by The Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry, and researchers from UTokyo and Hitotsubashi University.
This research project will propose labor market regulatory reforms to the government based on the results obtained from this research. Works Applications aims to improve the productivity of large enterprises by applying the research project’s findings to its company's products as quickly as possible.
This research project will be led by Professor Hideo Owan, a labor economist at Utokyo, and a faculty fellow at RIETI researching and analyzing the internal labor market. Through the cooperation of existing customers, Works Applications is provided long-term human resources data on placement, promotion, working hours, evaluation, and compensation for employees at major corporations. This data aided in the analysis of abundant information that cannot be obtained from government statistics or human resources system policies. This unprecedented approach to research has attracted major attention from both governmental and academic circles.
In the new growth strategy of the Abe cabinet (“Japan Revitalization Strategy – JAPAN is BACK"), the topic of "participation by all and fostering human resources who can succeed in the global competition" was raised. The development and securing of human resources that can be active globally has become important for the future of Japan.
This research project investigates how motivation can be improved through the design of appropriate compensation structures, how personnel placement can be improved through fair evaluation, utilization of women, selection of leaders, and works to devise mechanisms for creating strong organizations while continuing to attract diverse personnel. The research findings will be announced as part of a strategy to give back to Japanese society.
The results of "Economic Analysis of Corporate Human Resources Allocation Mechanisms," including those pertaining to the relationship between compensation structures and employee turnover, the relationship between training content and the added value produced by employees, and how changes in structures or personnel placement affect innovation, will be reflected as functions in the Works Applications product "COMPANY" HR series with the aim of further enhancing the software package.
