Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings achieves global human resource management using “COMPANY”

Works Applications Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Makino; hereinafter “WAP”)  is pleased to announce that we have received an order for a “COMPANY Global Human Affairs” license by Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshimitsu Kobayashi; hereinafter “Mitsubishi Chemical HD”).

In the increasingly high-paced global business, human affairs management is essential in business competitiveness and is urgently needed. 

Mitsubishi Chemical HD is global corporation comprised of four business companies- Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation, Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc., and Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd., and about one third of the approx. 3 trillion yen in sales is earned from overseas sales. Currently, overseas subsidiaries and factories are found in approx. 130 countries and regions, and due to recent and rapid development in global business, such as the purchase of overseas companies by M&A, Mitsubishi has roughly 55,000 employees within and outside Japan.

However, there was also a strong awareness that measures such as employee rotation to promote career advancement by excellent human resources, and providing training opportunities to prospective executives, was not sufficiently carried out due to insufficient recognition of important human resources in overseas corporations by the human affairs department at the headquarters of each company.                                                       

With the goal of strengthening competitiveness in global business which is expected to continue to speed up in the future, establishment of a global human affairs database at the HD headquarters was sought in order to achieve a more accurate understanding of all human resources within and outside of Japan, and to more effectively hire, discover, and train excellent foreign staff members overseas.

“COMPANY Global Human Affairs” to quickly establish a human resource database targeting the entire world

To establish a common human affairs database targeting the group companies around the world, standardization of evaluations and job grading, which used to be managed differently by each country, was needed. The time and costs required to accomplish this was a major concern. With this in mind, COMPANY, which can automatically gather information into a global human affairs database without the need to integrate the existing systems and overseas management systems, was highly assessed from the standpoint of establishment speed, continuous collection of information.  These are important aspects in the establishment of a global human affairs system, and could be adopted as the global human affairs database system for Mitsubishi Chemical HD.

Taking advantage of the newly built-in global link function, COMPANY can integrate the evaluation method and grading information originally used in each country, then automatically convert the information to management items for the global human affair database, and can accumulate information with the same index.

A speedy, global human affairs database can be established without the burden of introducing a large system to each base in each country. In addition, horizontal human resource information also can be achieved by integrating the domestic human resource database established in the four business companies which have already introduced COMPANY. Moreover, talent management that can promote the rotation of worldwide managerial human resources with optimal organization has been sought by encouraging prospective executives who can carry the administration into the future to proactively report their own strong points and desire for future careers, etc., in addition to previously accumulated information.
