Works Applications Co., Ltd. The internship system originally began as on-job training program targeting college and graduate students. In recent years, there has been varying purpose and implementation styles of internships. For students, internship has become part of job search activities. More than 6,000 companies* have started to offer internship programs. As there has been many changes in the Corporate Ethics Charter on Recruitment and Selection in the past 1-2 years, many companies have been only offering short period career guidance program in the name of internships. One such common example is the so called “One Day Internship”. Since 2002, WAP started to offer “Potential Discovery Internship”, which aims to provide real opportunities for participants to discover and develop their potentials as business professionals.

The industrial structure and work environment today has greatly evolved due to globalization and emergence of artificial intelligence. Greater value has been placed on innovation to break the norm of existing businesses, giving greater urgency in training competent talents. WAP’s internship seeks to discover and cultivate such talents who are equipped with insights to look beyond common practices and preconceptions, the ability to think hypothetically based on ideals, and the capability to materialize ideas. For six continuous years since 2002, WAP’s internship program has been selected as the No. 1 “Internship Recommended for New Graduates.” (according to Jobweb). Every year, there are approximately 80,000 applicants from around the world.

In the movie, the main character is first indecisive and lacks confidence as she searches for job opportunities as a college student. The story evolves as the main character grows into a confident business professional as she overcomes the challenges in WAP’s internship through experiencing peer bonding, failures, sense of ownership, struggles, and romance.

The cast includes Yuko Araki as the main character, an exclusive model for Non-no women fashion magazine and the 8th“Zexy Girl.” Ms. Araki has gained attention for her roles in movies such as “Kazoku Gokko”, “Kaze no Tayori”, and “Bokura no Gohan wa Ashita de Matteru.” Other supporting actors and actresses include actresses such as Anri Okamoto, Yuuna Suzuki, and Haru Izumi, who are popular models from Non-no magazine, and actors such as Gaku Sano and Tsunenori Aoki from “Kamen Rider Gaimu”, fashion model Rui Kurihara, and veteran actor Toru Kazama.

Mr. Tamon Andrew Niwa, producer at BS-TBS, has made the following comment.

“I became interested after hearing that WAP was the company who has popularized the idea of internship in Japan. I was told that students who are given the “Company Entrance Pass” as the result of their excellent performance in the internship program have the option to join the company at any time they want. This is quite unusual compare to conditions from general job offers in Japan. I was impressed by WAP’s genericity and felt that it would be interesting to produce a movie based on WAP who is the pioneer in the field.

Many companies now offer internship programs. But the main purpose for such companies has been corporate PR. In turn, there has been stronger emphasis among new graduates to seek for jobs based on companies’ brand names rather than discovering their true potentials as professionals during job search. WAP’s internship places value on the actual growth of the participants, encouraging them to accumulate experiences to create values from scratch before joining the workforce. I think this is why WAP is the most popular company among the students.”
