Works Applications Speeds Up Global Expansion with More Than Half of New Hires through Global Recruitment

Masayuki Makino, CEO of Works Applications, vows to provide all employees with the opportunity to work overseas.

TOKYO - April 1, 2014 - Works Applications, Japan’s largest ERP software provider, has significantly strengthened its overseas recruitment efforts relative to last year, and in 2014 employed new graduates not only in China and India, but also in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. More than half of the roughly 250 new employees in Japan and overseas were hired through global recruitment efforts, a first for the company.

A welcome ceremony was held today at Works Applications headquarters in Tokyo to welcome 136 graduates as new employees. Works Applications Executive Director and CEO Masayuki Makino issued a message of encouragement to the new employees:

"For personnel who will compete overseas, I want you to focus on your own growth. As you join our company today, I won't say ‘Congratulations on your admission to our company.‘ Let me instead express my heartfelt appreciation to you for choosing us.

“I founded Works Applications with the desire to create a company where employees could definitely grow by themselves, a place like Silicon Valley where employees could collaborate with each other to create entirely new things. Our company will work together to expand our business throughout the world. I want to tell you that we have high expectations for everyone here for that work.

“We will provide all employees with the opportunity to work overseas. Today, personnel who have been recruited globally are also participating in a welcome ceremony in Shanghai. From summer onward, new personnel recruited in India and Singapore will also join our company. All of them are your colleagues.

They have graduated from the top-class universities worldwide, and are excited for the potential to grow. I want all of you to work just as hard as those colleagues to grow. For that purpose, I think we should give all employees the opportunity to work overseas, and from now on we will send more and more employees overseas. I want all of you to go overseas and grow more quickly and become people who will prevail in a global marketplace.

“I am not seeking output, but your growth. The people here now have carefully and deliberately assessed the sophistication of creativity as part of the recruiting process. To further extend that, it is necessary to be in difficult positions and tackle problems. I am not asking for small output, I am asking for your growth.

“The new employee training which begins today is not intended to teach lecturing or business manners. You will be given a series of difficult challenges that cannot be overcome by people who do not strive for greatness, and think things through thoroughly by themselves. I want you to focus only on your own growth and quickly break through the problems. Even after this training, I want you to stand strong and aggressively challenge difficult problems, and quickly grow into personnel who can compete overseas.
