India's Top Engineering Students Engage in Cutting-Edge Technological Research During Internships with Works Applications

TOKYO – May 21, 2013 - Works Applications, Japan’s largest ERP software provider, is focusing on the recruitment of talented engineering students from all over the world. As part of those efforts, today the company has started internships under a new program targeting university students from India.

During graduate recruitment in 2013, Works Applications strengthened its recruitment from overseas and recruited many talented personnel from China and India. A welcoming ceremony was held at the company’s Tokyo headquarters, where Masayuki Makino, Executive Director and CEO, sent a message of encouragement to the new employees.

Students participating in this internship program represent many of the top Indian schools for information engineering centered on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) system. Student interns will work in Works Applications’ cutting-edge technology research departments at the company either in Japan or in Shanghai from May 21 to July 10.

Students and graduates from the top Indian universities for information science are evaluated highly all over the world, and they are recruited consistently not by only Indian domestic companies but by European, American, and Asian companies.

Against this background, 661 talented students considering a global career participated in a Works Applications seminar. Since opportunities for overseas internships, particularly in Japan or China, are limited for Indian students, the acceptance this time was evaluated extremely highly by the students themselves as well as their various universities.

The current internship participants include 9 students, selected from participants in the seminar and among those that demonstrated practical technical skills through programming challenges and live coding, among others tests.

Each student intern assigned to an office is engaged in actual work in R&D. They will work on the development of scalable systems using distributed KVS, development of our in-house configuration management tool for the purpose of product quality control, groupware development, etc. The program is performed entirely in English, so while the program offers real-world job experience, it also enhances the strength of the cultural environment at Works Applications.

During the internship period, Works Applications’ R&D engineers assess the day-to-day thinking, technical skills, and practical skills of student interns, and if sophistication is seen, a formal offer of employment may be issued to the applicable student intern.

As Works Applications looks towards future global expansion, the company has established a Shanghai office in 2010 and a Singapore office in 2012. At the same time, in order to recruit talented personnel from all over the world, the company has carried out various initiatives, which as large-scale internship sessions in China and India. In order to further expand recruitment efforts, Works Applications is also strengthening recruitment in Europe, America, and Singapore as well as other countries.
